Liverpool vs PSG Champions League Betting Tips
9th March 2025
Premier League Champions elect Liverpool topped the first ever new-look Champions League table and hold a 1-0 lead going into the Round of 16 Second Leg against PSG.
But that scoreline does not tell the whole picture, for PSG absolutely battered Liverpool for the vast majority of the 90 minutes, but just couldn’t get the goal. Paris SG had 27 shots in the first leg – the second-most on record (from 2003-04) by a side in a UEFA Champions League knockout match in which they both failed to score and lost, behind only PSG themselves v Borussia Dortmund in May 2024.
Alisson Becker – the Liverpool goalkeeper – claimed it was the best ever performance in his career, as he made 9 saves from those 27 shots, and it is largely thanks to him that they are in the position they are in.
Mo Salah, probably the best player in the world this season, was largely ineffective, but his replacement as a sub – Harvey Elliott – jumped off the bench and 47 seconds later, he scored the winner in the 87th minute.
So we are all set for a firecracker of a second leg!
Match Betting Odds
(Please note all odds are correct at time of publishing)
Liverpool 23/20 (Bet365)
Draw 3/1 (BetFred)
PSG 19/10 (Coral)
Liverpool have been incredible this season, sweeping all aside before them and looking like winning the Premier League at a canter. PSG have been equally dominant in France, winning 20 and drawing 5 of their 25 Ligue 1 games. This isn’t France, though, and this isn’t the PSG team that included Messi, Neymar and Mbappe (and even that side couldn’t win the Champions League). The French league is a lot weaker than the Premier League and we can’t see past Liverpool winning this one.
Both Teams To Score
Yes 1/2 (Bet365)
No 13/8 (BetFred)
With all the above said, PSG need to score and we think they will. But we also think Liverpool will score, so even at odds of 1/2, this looks a very good bet. Be sure to check bookmakers on the day, though, because some companies like Bet365 do a boost and it may well be on both teams to score boosted to evens.
Correct Score Market (Selected)
Liverpool to win 1-0 11/1 (BetFred)
Liverpool to win 2-0 12/1 (Bet365)
Liverpool to win 2-1 17/2 (Bet365)
Liverpool to win 3-1 14/1 (BetFred)
Draw 0-0 18/1 (Bet365)
Draw 1-1 7/1 (Bet365)
PSG to win 1-0 12/1 (BetFred)
PSG to win 2-0 18/1 (Bet365)
PSG to win 2-1 9/1 (Bet365)
The only one we are interested in here is 2-1 to Liverpool. As we have said above, we do expect Liverpool to win and we do expect PSG to score, so 2-1 seems like the most likely scoreline.
The other option is there to do Liverpool to win and both teams to score, of course, and if you do a bet builder with Bet365 the odds are 13/5. If you fancy this market, be sure to do it as a bet builder as that way you get the “2 Up” promotion (if Liverpool go two goals up, the win part of the bet pays out even if Liverpool don’t win. So they could go 2-0 up and end up drawing 2-2, but Bet365 would still pay out the bet builder as a winner).
First Goalscorer
All prices are courtesy of BetFred, because as always, we use them for their fantastic First Goalscorer offer (if your player scores first and then goes on to score a second goal, you get double the odds and if he score’s a hat-trick, you get treble the odds).
Mo Salah 4/1
Ousmane Dembele 5/1
Goncalo Ramos 6/1
Diogo Jota 13/2
Darwin Nunez 7/1
Bradley Barcola 7/1
Luis Diaz 15/2
Cody Gakpo 15/2
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia 8/1
Mo Salah is the most in form forward in world football at the minute so he is the obvious choice to do as first goalscorer. Not only that, he is by far the most likely player on the pitch to get two or three goals, so the 4/1 on him being first goalscorer is extremely juicy. It will look even juicier if he gets a second or third and we get odds of 8/1 or 12/1.
Team News
PSG had the luxury of resting 8 players on Saturday. They have no injury worries.
Liverpool also rested players and have no new injury worries, although Joe Gomez (hamstring) and Conor Bradley (muscle injury) are still out.
