It’s almost here. Less than a week to go for the big rematch: Usyk v Fury 2.
Against the expectations of many, the first fight delivered an absolute classic.
In that first fight, Fury seemed to dominate rounds 2 to 7 and was absolutely cruising, showboating more than ever and seemingly enjoying himself. Round 8 was closer, but in round 9 Usyk stepped on the gas and caught Fury with a huge punch. He followed that up with 10 to 14 unanswered punches that saw Fury falling over the ring. Just as it looked like Usyk might have him, the ref gave Fury a standing count. This allowed Fury to recover and compose himself when a lot thought the referee should have been stopping the fight.
The facts are, though, Usyk won on one judge’s card quite clearly, Fury won on one card by a single point, and Usyk won on one card by a single point. That one 10-8 round won the fight for Usyk. If he had won the round 10-9, the fight would have been scored a draw. It really was that close.
So, what drama can we expect in the rematch?!
Match Betting Odds
(Please note all odds are correct at time of publishing)
Oleksandr Usyk 8/11 (Ladbrokes)
Tyson Fury 13/10 (Bet365)
Draw 16/1 (BetFred)
For the first fight, Fury was the very slight favourite with the bookies. For this one, as you’d expect after his win in the first fight, Usyk is the favourite. It’s still very tight in the betting, but he’s a more decisive favourite than Fury was in the first fight.
We believe there is going to be a trilogy, one way or another. And that can only happen if Fury wins, or they draw. Of course, Usyk could score the KO that he came so close to in the first fight, and that would end all doubts. But we think it’s going to go to points again, in a very, very close fight. So close, that it will be a split decision victory for Fury, or even a draw, setting up a huge third fight. Whether that would be after or before Fury finally fights Anthony Joshua remains to be seen…..
Fury doesn’t have to make too many adjustments to get the win. As stated, it was a very close fight last time and but for that 9th round, Fury might have won. He needs to remain focused for the full fight, quit the showboating and possibly be a little more aggressive than last time, but it’s possible.
We want a saver on the draw though, just in case. We seem to see more draws in big fights nowadays than we used to, and the lure of the Saudi gold for a third fight makes it more possible.

Fury Round 12 50/1 (Ladbrokes)
We think Tyson Fury by Decision at 15/4 (Bet365) is the most likely outcome and as the odds are a fair bit better than Usyk on points, it also makes betting sense in a tight contest.
What we would say is, if this fight is going to be win via a stoppage we would expect it to be in the second half of the fight. We can’t imagine either fighter being stopped early on, so if you are looking for a round then it’s perhaps best to look at round 7 onwards. Remember round 9 was the one where Usyk had Fury in trouble last time and a small bet on any round between rounds 7 and 12 would perhaps be a wise choice.
Fight To Go The Distance
Yes 4/6 (Bet365)
No 11/10 (Bet365)
If you are sure the fight will – or won’t – reach the final bell, but can’t decide which fighter will win, then this is the market for you. The bookies are marginally in favour of it going the distance.
Method of Victory
(All Bet365 odds)
Unanimous Decision Usyk 13/5 Fury 5/1
Split Decision Usyk 9/1 Fury 14/1
Technical Knockout Usyk 15/4 Fury 9/2
Disqualified Opponent Usyk 100/1 Fury 100/1
Knockout Usyk 11/1 Fury 12/1
Majority Decision Usyk 16/1 Fury 25/1
Technical Decision Usyk 100/1 Fury 100/1
Draw 14/1
There’s a few that interest there but the one that stands out is Fury to win by Split Decision at 14/1. Usyk won by Split Decision in the first fight and we just feel it’s the most likely outcome here. Another very, very close fight; one judge scoring it to Usyk, two scoring it to Fury and the 14/1 there looks very juicy.
